Cruises have never been known for their sustainability. Royal Caribbean is hoping to change the game by opening the world’s first 100% solar powered cruise terminal in our backyard, Galveston!

Opening this month, the $125 million, 161,334-square-foot terminal will host the Allure of the Seas, currently the world’s largest cruise ship. The Allure will embark on the terminals first trip November 13, 2022.

Along with having the ability to generate 100% of the terminals power by solar energy, Royal Caribbean also focused on improved sustainability during the construction. The project prioritized materials that produced less carbon to make, use, and transport. They also diverted 75% of the construction waste from landfills.

The terminal will also have a positive effect on the Galveston Island community. The new terminal will supply hundreds of new jobs, will offer bicycle facilities to make it easier for some people to get to work, as well as EV charging stations, which will also be supplied power by the terminals solar system.

The new terminal is an important first step in Royal Caribbean’s net zero emissions program called “Destination Net Zero. The cruise group plans to get to net zero emissions by 2050. It’s evident by Royal Caribbean’s sustainable construction plans they are on the right track to making their goal!

Stay tuned to hear more about our referral program as we rework our reward system. Hint: We might be including  a cruise out of this new, state-of-the-art terminal to help support Royal Caribbean’s positive changes!
